Christmas Concerts and Home Sweet Home

Well, I am back in the land of hydrated skin. I flew in to Rupert on last nights flight...of course my luggage did not arrive with me!

The Christmas Holidays are over and I feel blue...maybe its low blood sugar and too much eating. Ontario was great fun. In true Niagara style it snowed 15 cm the night of my Grimsby performance and then turned to freezing rain. The 30 people who braved the winter storm to attend my show at the Smiling Dog are troopers!. A special thanks to Kate for opening up her shop for me.

Parts of Grimsby have really changed. The Burgess Market is gone and there are houses being built in the 'pick-your-own-strawberry' fields along the main street of town. But Grimsby still has its smalltown flavour and the people are just as friendly as I remember.

Before I left for the holidays I had a jampacked weekend. The CBC All Point West show from Prince Rupert was entertaining. Jo Anne Roberts is a great host and knows how to make you feel at home. It was good to see Kirsty Hudson again and to put a face to James Evans name. The Christmas Carol reading the following evening was a nice way to start out the holiday season. I have to say that I will never be able to listen to James in the morning again, without hearing Bob Cratchit's wife's voice!:)

Well I am off to get organized for the upcoming year and the Jenny's Concert. Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

Exciting New News

Well it is official! I am going to be opening up for The Wailin Jenny's when they come to Prince Rupert on Jan 6th 2005. I didn't want to say anything until it was official, and I got the word today. They are a great band you can check them out at www.thewailinjennys.com . This is exciting for me. I have never officialy been an opening act before. At the Smithers Fall Fair I played before both Ken McKoy and Mark Perry, but I wasn't officialy there to open. This will be great! A short set but a good experience.

Tomorrow night is the CBC All Points West Broadcast and then the next night is the Charles Dickens Christmas Carol Reading. I am fully Christmas-Carol-Practiced-Up. I also have a Christmas Party and a Stagette for a friend to attend. Then Sunday at the crack of dawn I am off to TO. I have a gig planned at the Smiling Dog Cafe in Grimsby on the 22nd at 7:00pm. I am excited and nervous to be playing in my hometown. Kate the Smiling Dog Cafe owner is a rupertite and I am looking forward to meeting her. I swear some days rupert makes the world go round. A few years ago when I was back in ONT for school, someone left a note on my windshield because I had BC plates and a Prince Rupert sticker on the car. The note said 'hello fellow rupertite, you are far from home'. No name, no phone number, no indication of who this mysterious note writer was. If you read this mysterious one...Please reveal yourself to me, I was the Red Dodge Colt Hatchback in the Erin Mills Parkway Mall :)

Website ups and downs

Yahoo! My website is up and running! It took me a couple of weeks to figure out how to do it all, but I am feeling pretty satisfied with the results. I hope everyone keeps checking back; there is a webdesign friend of mine that is going to do some creative stuff for me. Add some bling!. I will be adding more songs as I record them, as well as photos from recent events. There will also be a bulletin board under the Contact Page. I will be adding that tomorrow. Then you can post your comments. Although you can reply to these entry's as well.

I have been off work sick for the past 3 days and am feeling pretty blue about it. I knew something was up last week, I always feel out of sorts before a cold. I can't wait to get out of the house. Well I am off to watch more TV and stare longingly at my guitar.

Christmas Carols and other festive stuff

This past week has been packed with Christmas related stuff. I played live on the Mix 56 as they broadcast from the annual Atlin Terminal Christmas Party. I have to admit Christmas Carols are not my fav' to sing. But I muddled through and actually got a couple of Christmas Party gigs out of it.

December 18th is coming up pretty quickly and I have to brush up on 'Silent Night' and 'Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas'. I have been invited to sing during the CBC A Christmas Carol Reading. I will be playing a couple of other Christmas songs on CBC's All Points West as they broadcast live from Prince Rupert, Dec 17th to promote the show the next night.

I am getting excited about getting out of here for the holidays and returning to the city. Lately I have had a hankering for a Toronto Hot Dog! I hope to be playing a show or two in Ont. when I get there. I think one in Grimsby and maybe one in TO? I will post the dates as I know. Cheers and Merry Christmas! Sall

Birthdays

Yesterday was my birthday...lots of fun.....danced my face off at the Powder Pig Jig. The band (triple By Pass) tried to get me up on the stage to sing....Decided to crowd surf instead. Tequila!! If anyone reading this is ever in Prince Rupert around the 20th of November make sure you check this dance out! Held in the fishermen's Hall, I guarantee that you will not leave without a grin on your face, covered in beer and exhausted from dancing.

Websites almost done!

The beginning

Well, here goes...This is the beginning. I have spent all weekend designing my website. www.sallgibson.com I am almost there! By the time you read this first blog, it will be two or three weeks from now when I finally load my site. Things are good, I met with Russell a week ago and he thinks that my next step should be to get my website up and running and then plan a spring tour. This is pretty much on par with my own career goals. It's nice to know that I am on the right track! Well I am off for a quick run before bed. Work tomorrow...Yuck! Gd'nite all.
